It’s a New Year and a New You!  ERC is presenting you with the Year of Self-Care. We invite our members, employees, and social media followers to join us in a self-care practice for each month of 2020. Each month, we will present a new practice that is a smaller, more manageable change that will lead you to a healthier lifestyle. The idea is to make changes bit by bit rather than all at once. ERC will be right there with you providing tips and encouragement for your practice.  We hope you find this enjoyable and helpful in making 2020 The Year of Self-Care.

February Self-Focus: Meditation

Meditation is a real buzz word these days.  You hear it everywhere.  There are classes and apps to help you meditate.  But, the great thing about meditation is that it is free.  It is a self-care practice that you can do on your own with no financial investment.  Plus, there is no wrong way to meditate.  It's just a way of relaxing and giving your brain a break from stress.  According to the Mayo Clinic article, "Meditation: A simple, fast way to reduce stress," When you meditate, you may clear away the information overload that builds up every day and contributes to your stress.

The emotional benefits of meditation can include:

  • Gaining a new perspective on stressful situations
  • Building skills to manage your stress
  • Increasing self-awareness
  • Focusing on the present
  • Reducing negative emotions
  • Increasing imagination and creativity
  • Increasing patience and tolerance
