Keeping Cool this Summer!!

Posted on May 28, 2020 at 12:55 PM by Tiffany Miller

Hello Everyone!!

Summer is finally here!! It's time for lazy days, sleeping in, BBQ, beautiful sunsets and tan lines. Summer is my favorite season of all. I love warmer weather and being able to be outside, but summer looks a lot different this year.

COVID-19 is still here and has caused us to look at summer a little differently. Things are slowly opening up, but we are seeing across the country that the activities that we get excited to experience during summer, like camps and pools are closing. These are not easy decisions made by those individuals and companies, but it is for the safety of staff and the patrons.

It's easy to get discouraged about this summer, but I have some ways for you to still stay cool with water activities that are fun and refreshing!! Here are some fun ways to get creative and have a great time this summer!!

Water Balloon Piñata:
Everyone loves Piñatas at a party, well instead of candy, why not fill balloons with water to stay cool. All you need are balloons, sting, water, and a stick. Kids can take turns hitting the balloons filled with water in order to cool off. Kids will be active and have a blast splashing those around them with there turn.

Ice Boats:
This fun activity is a sure way to keep kids cool and be creative. All you need are some ice trays, toothpicks, foil and paper. Have your students make a sail with the paper and clue it to the tops of the toothpicks. This is their time to get creative and have some fun. Fill the ice trays with water and cover them with foil. Once they are covered, stick the toothpick in the foil in each slot with water. Place the ice tray in the freezer and let freeze. Once frozen the kids now have ice boats to race down a foil water slide. The kids will love seeing which boat is the fastest and have fun with the different sails they created.

Sprinkler Action:
Don't have a sprinkler, thats ok take a 32 oz bottle and poke some holes into it and create one. This is a fun way for kids to some water time. You can hang it from a tree or have it on the ground. Want a bigger one?? Get some PVC pipe and create a object that kids can run through. With small holes drilled throughout the pipe you can make a structure or just have it up high to help cool everyone off.

Water Games:
Everyone loves a great water ballon fight, but have you ever heard of a sponge fight. You can take sponges and buckets of water and go crazy. Just let the sponges fill with water to throw to get that person wet. Sponges can be easier to clean up than picking up balloon pieces and will last all summer. You can also use them to have a relay race or surprise Dad who's sitting in the chair. Other water games include water gun fights, water races, and water duck duck goose. The possibilities are endless. the more creative you get the cooler you can be.

There are lots of other fun activities you can do to stay cool. Heres one of my favorite sites to help give you some ideas. https://www.theidearoom.net/diy-outdoor-water-activities-for-kids/
This summer can still be just as fun even if things aren't back to normal. It's easy to get frustrated and discouraged, but now more than every we need to still be kind and think outside the box. We are in this together and can still give our kids lots of lasting memories and have a great time as a family. Try some different water activities and let us know what you come up with. Make sure to tag us on our ERC face book page with what you come up with. Have a awesome day everyone!!
