National Caramel Popcorn Day!!

Posted on April 6, 2020 at 10:50 AM by Tiffany Miller

Hello Everyone,

I hope you all had a awesome weekend. I know I did. I filled it with lots of outdoor time. I even walked to the post office to send my letter of kindness to my friends and family.

I don't know about you, but I love popcorn. It's one of my favorite snacks. There's so many different flavors and combinations you can do with it. My favorite is to pour a big bag of M&M's on top and have the sweet and salty. I'm lucky enough that we have the Pop Up Popcorn days at the Rec Center, so I get a fun surprise of my favorite snack at work.

Well today is National Caramel Popcorn Day!! The fun snack started in the 1800's where they would put molasses with popcorn to make a sweet flavor. However, caramel was prevalent as well, and the with the production of Cracker Jack, the popularity was ever-increasing. Cracker Jack gained popularity at the world fairs but really took off in 1908. A young performer penned a catchy tune with the famous snack that changed the way we think about it all together. Can you name the tune?? "Take me out to the ball game." With this song, the sales of Cracker Jack soared and forever put baseball and the snack together.

In honor or this sweet day I wanted to give you a easy recipe to make with your family.

Ingredients

Directions

Preheat oven to 250°. Melt butter in a saucepan; add Creamy Caramel Sauce and heat over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the caramel sauce starts to bubble. Remove from heat and add baking soda. When sauce is completely combined, pour over popcorn in a large roasting pan and stir until popcorn is evenly coated. Bake for 10 minutes; remove from oven and stir. Repeat baking and stirring two more times until popcorn has baked a total of 30 minutes. Pour caramel corn onto a parchment paper to cool; store in an airtight container. Makes 10 servings.

And just like that you have an amazing dessert to celebrate with your family tonight after dinner. To make it ever more fun film your family sining "Take me out to the ball game" and tag us on Facebook. Have a awesome day everyone.

Until Next Time
