Good Morning Everyone,
I can't believe it's April already. With welcoming signs of spring popping up everywhere, it's safe to say that this warmer weather is very inviting. Today also marks an event that is known all around the world. April Fools Day.
April Fools Day dates back to 1582, where France switched from the Julian Calendar to the Gregorian calendar, as called for by the Council of Trent in 1563. People who were slow to get the news or failed to recognize that the start of the new year moved to January 1 and continued to celebrate it during the last week of March through April 1 started jokes and hoaxes and were called " April Fools."
Today's April Fools is a little different. With our world already turned upside down with COVID-19, lots of companies and individuals are taking the year off in respect for those that are fighting the COVID-19 pandemic. COVID-19 is nothing to joke about, but there is still a need for some harmless fun that can bring a smile to your kid's face. Here are some ways to celebrate the day and connect with your family at home, in a fun and safe way.
1. Family Switch-- Switch your family photos with a Famous Person. See how long it takes for someone to notice.
2. Brownies-- Tell your kids that you made them some brownies, but when they lift the foil, all they see is a pan full of brown E's.
3.Drink Discovery-- Add some food coloring to a opaque drink carton like a carton of milk or orange juice. When the pull it out of the fridge and pour, they will be pleasantly surprised.
4. Fake a Steak-- Serve dessert that looks like dinner. Take some chocolate ice cream and wrap it in plastic wrap to form the shape of a steak and freeze it. You can take pound cake and cut it to look like fries or take candy pieces to look like some short of vegetable. Your kids will be surprised to have dessert for dinner.
There are lots of other fun and safe ways to celebrate today, these are just a few of my favorite. Even if you don't play any jokes today, I encourage you to take the time to sit and laugh. Watch a funny movie, look up funny jokes with your kids, have a silly face contest, anything to make you laugh. It's true when they say that laughter is the best medicine, and I know that in times like these, it really does help a lot. Have a fun and safe day!
