Good Morning!!

Today is a fun day around the world. Kammock, an outdoor goods store, is encouraging people to camp at home this week amid the COVID-19 outbreak. They have designated March 27 National Camp at Home Day, and they're calling for the community to come together. Whether it's a living room pillow fort or a backyard base camp, they are encouraging us to get creative and have a fun day camping.  Other major outdoor companies are also joining the cause, like REI and posting their pictures on Facebook. I too will be doing this challenge tonight. I'm excited to share my experience with you in the blog.

This challenge really makes me excited.  I am a huge outdoor person and love to go camping. I had the privilege of backpacking in Yosemite last summer and touring other beautiful National Parks. It was a dream of mine. We saw three bears, beautiful water falls, and stood on top of the tallest mountains. I was walking in the foot steps of my hero John Muir and I was in love with it.

Camping is all about making memories and getting away. Even though we can't really "get away" this is a opportunity to make some lasting memories with our kids and have a little fun. There are a ton of amazing snack recipes that you can do with your kids to prepare for tonight. This is one of my favorite granola recipes.
1 cup of oats
1 cup of almonds
1 cup of walnut
1/4 cup of sun flower seeds
3 table spoons of butter
Cinnamon to taste
3 tablespoons of maple syrup
Mix all the ingredients together and spread it out on a nonstick baking pan. Place in a 325 degree oven for 15 mins. You can add whatever nuts or dried fruits you want to the recipe. Get creative and enjoy!!

I really hope you join me in this challenge. It's a break from the new normal that we are experiencing and gives your kids something to look forward too. Take the sleeping bags out of the closet, charge the headlamps, build a campsite and let the kids be involved. Build the most epic pillow forts, tell spooky stories around the glow of a lantern and dress to impress in your best camping attire. Make sure you tag us in your photos on the Emporia Rec Center Facebook page. Have fun and happy camping!!
